SouthPointers.com is a web community dedicated to all the alumni, students, teachers and staff of South Point High School, Kolkata (Calcutta). Our primary goal is to maintain a directory of all people who are linked to the South Point High School and provide a base to reconnect with old friends and associates.

We are passionate about our school where we began and want to be proactive and stay in touch with our roots. On April 1, 1954 the Late Satikanta Guha along with Mrs. Pritylata Guha as associate founder founded the South Point School. Its venue was 16 Mandeville Gardens Calcutta 700019. It soon set very high standards and made progress in all fields. Later the South Point Education Society was formed for the administration of the school. Soon it attracted a number of students and grew into a large popular school, one of the best in Calcutta.

South Point had the honour of being the first co-educational school in West Bengal to be affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education, West Bengal in January 1957. In 1958 the first batch of students from South Point School officially gave the School Final Examination. The High School Department which was at first housed in the original building at 16 Mandeville Gardens was upgraded to High Secondary level from April 1st 1960. Mrs. Pritylata Guha founded the new High School Building on February 26th 1968. The High School moved to it's new building on 19th April 1970. Since then it has been smooth going for the school all the way.

Today, South Point has grown into a large, but closely knit family comprising of over 13,000 students, 325 teachers and 225 members of non-teaching staff. The school has also had the great honour of being mentioned in the 1984-1992 edition of the Guiness Book of World Records as being the World's Largest School. The School Motto,Courage to know,is a tribute to all those who, in the face of blind prejudice, religious bigotry, social ostracism and even death, refused to give up their search for truth.
